After a very long season of playing for the Las Vegas Heat, filled with extensive traveling, three Solano County natives decided to start their own team. The Solano Mudcats were etablished in 1990 by Shawn Scibek, George Sebena, and Jed Czajkowski. Some team names were discussed, Czajkowski offered up the Mudcats name and all 3 agreed that it should be the Solano Mudcats rather than the Vacaville Mudcats.
The Mudcats soon joined the Fontenetti's League based in San Jose, a year round league where the Cats played over a hundred games a year. They then decided to join the Cal-Neva Wood Bat league. Finally, the Mudcats found a home with the Sacramento Rural League in 1993. The Sacramento Rural league, which has been around since 1946, provided the stability the Mudcats needed. Once an established top semi-pro club, the Mudcats have now transitioned into a Collegiate Baseball organization. The Mudcats offer clinics and camps to local youth and continue to offer player instruction up through the Solano Mudcats Collegiate team. Sebena and Czajkowski have since moved on but frequently check in on the Cats. Shawn Scibek remains the heartbeat of the Mudcats both as a coach as well as serving on the board.
